“S.T.O.P. means so much to me as a suicide survivor. I am thankful for all the school outreach S.T.O.P. does. Helping students who are struggling and showing them they care and want to help. For so many people that’s all it takes to get the person the help they need before they go too far.”

“On behalf of Brazosport Independent School District, I am pleased to offer this letter supporting the S.T.O.P. teen suicide prevention program.”

“The speakers relay messages to the rally attendees that shine a light on the importance of each person’s life. Brazosport I.S.D. is proud that Mrs. George hosted her first rally within our school district boundary in Freeport, TX. Once word spread about the success of the rally, Mrs. George was given the opportunity to spread the rallies throughout Brazoria County.”

– Danny Massey

“[S.T.O.P.] rallies provided our students with resources and an outlet to come forward and receive help. Through Austin Lanier’s testimony and hip-hop performance, he was able to reach our students with the powerful message that you are not alone. The feedback received from our students and staff is extremely positive.”

Alice Clayton

Principal, Angleton Junior High

“Sweeny ISD is pleased to endorse and support the S.T.O.P. program. We applaud this group’s dedication to educate and support our youth in a captivating and educational manner, and well as, create a movement to prevent suicide. Their willingness to meet our district’s needs by doing a school rally allowed us to reach all of our students. It also provided each student with resources that are available to them. Often, we do not realize the pressures that some of our students feel. Also, it is the students we least expect that are having suicidal thoughts.”

Amy Pope

Superintendent, Sweeny Independent School District

“When people have a passion for something, it comes through loud and clear. My experience with Ms. George with the S.T.O.P. program is just that. She has a dedication and passion to serve others. Saving lives with early or possible intervention is a special gift, which I believe Brenda George has. Her passion comes through loud and clear, and she speaks truthfully in her care for those at risk.”

DO YOU KNOW THE SIGNS?

S.T.O.P. Can Help!

The statistics say that there are teenagers in your own community that are, right this very moment, considering taking their own life. Do you know the risk factors and the symptoms of an imminent suicide? S.T.O.P. is determined to educate as many people as possible to slow down and eventually erradicate the rising rate of teen suicide.

THE PROJECT

BL & Brenda George, the co-founders of S.T.O.P. (Stop.Talk.Overcome.Pain), came to realize that the suicide rate in Brazoria County, Texas had recently increased by 30%. In Texas, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death between the ages of 10 – 24. They also saw that this trend is increasing throughout the country.

The George’s created an educator approved campaign that collaborates with more than 35 local agencies in Brazoria County to host youth rallies and school events that focus on suicide prevention, anti-bullying, cyber-bullying awareness and intervention.

The S.T.O.P. mission is to expand this initiative to other states and reduce suicidal behaviors through public education, local community advocacy, training, school assemblies, and peer support. S.T.O.P. has now provided education and training in schools and community organizations across Texas, and we look forward to working with educators and local resources throughout the country.

S.T.O.P. and its board of directors are determined to lower these tragic numbers and are asking communities to join with them in providing the support networks our children need to STOP TALK and OVERCOME PAIN.
